School Bereavement Counsellor

We’re seeking a dedicated Bereavement Counsellor (Child & Young Persons Specialist) to play a vital role in supporting children and young people through bereavement.

This is an opportunity to provide high-quality emotional support to young people dealing with loss.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing individual counselling to children and young people facing bereavement.
  • Managing your own caseload, addressing pre-death and bereavement issues.
  • Developing and facilitating group therapeutic support for children and young people outside of school hours.
  • Developing and delivering training programs on bereavement support for external organisations.
  • Maintaining accurate and comprehensive records, both computer and paper-based.
  • Making appropriate referrals to other professionals.
  • Working within the policies, procedures and Code of Conduct.
  • Maintaining confidentiality and adhering to health and safety regulations.

The key skills and qualities we are looking for:

  • Expertise in providing bereavement counselling to children and young people.
  • Strong understanding of the emotional needs of bereaved children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Experience 1 in developing and delivering training programs.
  • Strong organisational and record-keeping skills.
  • Ability to work with external agencies such as schools.
  • Ability to create and facilitate group therapeutic sessions.
  • Ability to work within BACP code of conduct.

Essential Requirements:

  • Experience in providing bereavement counselling to children and young people.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and procedures.
  • Previous experience within this or a similar role.
