Special Needs Teaching Assistant

Area: City Centre Birmingham

Hours: Mon – Fri, 8:30am – 3:30pm

Salary: £80- £100 per day

Start date: January 6th 2025

Monarch Education are working closely with a group of special needs schools in Birmingham who requires a full time Teaching Assistant to work within their specialist team to help support the education and development of their children from Key Stage 2 up to GCSE level and beyond.

This is a full-time, long-term role, Monday to Friday to start ASAP for the full academic year, with the view of potentially going permanent.

We are seeking to appoint an individual with a calming and nurturing nature, who has extensive experience working with children or adults with special needs. This experience may be gained in either the care or education sector. While formal qualifications are not required, any transferable skills or related qualifications would be highly regarded.

The ideal candidate will have but not essential:

  • Have experience working with young people
  • A good standard of education including Math and English GCSE at C (or equivalent) and NVQ Level 2/3 for Teaching Assistants are essential
  • Be highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children
  • Have good behaviour management skills
  • Have experience supporting children or adults with additional needs such as ASC

Main Responsibilities:

  • Supporting the class teacher and other teaching assistants in the day to day running of the class
  • Supporting children during lessons/school activities
  • Managing difficult behaviours
  • Delivering 1:1 or small group activities
  • Collecting evidence of children’s work to support their assessment
