SEMH Teaching Assistant – Stamford

Monarch Education is currently recruiting a dedicated and resilient SEMH Teaching Assistant to support students in a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) provision in Stamford. This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning, including those with additional behavioural, emotional, or mental health needs.

As an SEMH Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teaching staff and pastoral teams to provide tailored 1:1 and small‑group support, build trusting relationships with students, and help create a safe, positive, and encouraging learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supporting students with SEMH needs both in and out of the classroom
  • Assisting with the implementation of personalised learning plans
  • Using de‑escalation strategies and behaviour management techniques
  • Providing 1:1 mentoring and emotional support to promote wellbeing
  • Working collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and senior staff
  • Helping to create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment
  • Encouraging positive engagement, resilience, and independence

Requirements

  • Experience supporting young people with SEMH, SEN, or behavioural needs
  • Strong communication, empathy, and relationship‑building skills
  • Ability to remain calm, consistent, and patient under pressure
  • Knowledge of de‑escalation strategies (TEAM‑Teach or equivalent desirable)
  • Must be a current UK resident and eligible to work in the UK
  • Willing to complete an enhanced DBS check and provide two employment references
