Monarch Education is currently recruiting on behalf of a well-established Alternative Provision in Coventry for a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to support secondary-aged pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This role is ideal for individuals who are passionate about making a meaningful difference in the lives of young people who may have faced barriers to mainstream education. You will work closely with teaching staff to provide structured support that promotes engagement, emotional regulation, and positive behavioural outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH needs
- Assist in the delivery of tailored lesson plans and interventions
- Support pupils in managing challenging behaviour in line with school policies
- Foster a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment
- Build positive, professional relationships with pupils to encourage trust and engagement
- Monitor pupil progress and provide feedback to teaching staff
- Support the implementation of behaviour management strategies and EHCP targets (where applicable)
- Promote pupils’ social and emotional development as well as academic progress
Job Specification
Essential Requirements:
- Experience working with secondary-aged pupils (ages 11-16)
- Previous experience supporting individuals with SEMH needs or challenging behaviour
- Strong behaviour management skills and a calm, patient approach
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to build rapport with pupils who may be disengaged from education
- A proactive and adaptable attitude
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
Desirable Criteria:
- Relevant qualifications (e.g. CACHE Level 2/3, Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent)
- Experience in an Alternative Provision, PRU, or SEN setting
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches and restorative practice
- Team Teach or similar de-escalation training (not essential but advantageous)
