Monarch Education is proud to be working in partnership with a well-established specialist school in Solihull to recruit a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils across a range of needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Autism (ASC) and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD) within a supportive, inclusive, and structured environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Support pupils with SEMH, Autism and PMLD, adapting approaches to suit each learner
  • Assist with personal care and mobility where required (PMLD support)
  • Promote emotional regulation, communication, and social development
  • Implement individual education and behaviour plans (EHCPs)
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Support sensory activities and structured routines for pupils with Autism
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, therapists, and other professionals
  • Help create a safe, calm, and engaging learning environment

Essential Criteria

  • Previous experience working with SEN pupils (SEMH, Autism, or PMLD)
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to challenging behaviour
  • Understanding of behaviour management strategies and emotional support
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting children and young people with additional needs
  • Willingness to support personal care where required

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health & Social Care, or equivalent)
  • Experience in a specialist school or SEN setting
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or sensory support strategies
