Monarch Education is working in partnership with a specialist SEN school in Wolverhampton to recruit a full-time SEN Teaching Assistant. This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with a range of complex needs, including Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH), Autism (ASC), and Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD), within a structured, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

The Role

As a SEN Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support tailored to individual pupil needs
  • Support pupils with SEMH, Autism, and PMLD, adapting strategies to suit each learner
  • Assist with personal care, feeding, and mobility where required
  • Promote emotional regulation, communication, and social development
  • Support delivery of differentiated learning activities set by the teacher
  • Implement EHCP targets and individual support plans
  • Use positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
  • Support sensory needs and structured routines, particularly for pupils with Autism
  • Help create a calm, safe, and nurturing learning environment
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists, SENCOs, and external professionals

Essential Criteria

  • Experience working with SEN pupils, particularly SEMH, Autism, or PMLD
  • A calm, patient, and resilient approach to supporting complex needs
  • Understanding of behaviour management and emotional regulation strategies
  • Willingness to support personal care needs
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • A genuine passion for supporting young people with additional needs
  • Available to work full-time on a long-term basis

Desirable

  • Relevant qualification (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, Health & Social Care)
  • Experience in a specialist SEN school setting
  • Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or sensory integration strategies
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice
