Teaching Assistant – Autism Support

About the Role
Monarch Education are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to work within a specialist SEN school supporting pupils with Autism (ASC) and complex needs.
This rewarding role involves providing dedicated classroom and 1:1 support, helping pupils to access learning in a structured, nurturing environment. You will also play a key role in supporting personal care needs, ensuring dignity, safety, and wellbeing at all times.
The setting takes a holistic and therapeutic approach, supporting pupils with communication difficulties, sensory needs, and social development, while promoting independence and confidence.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils with Autism and additional needs in the classroom and on a 1:1 basis
- Assist with personal care, including toileting and hygiene where required
- Support learning activities, engagement, and communication
- Implement individual education and care plans (EHCPs)
- Use visual aids, sensory strategies, and structured routines
- Promote emotional regulation and positive behaviour
- Work closely with the class teacher, therapists, and wider SEND team
- Support the development of life skills and independence
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with Autism/SEND
- Comfortable supporting personal care needs
- A compassionate, patient and nurturing approach
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Ability to remain calm and adaptable in challenging situations
- Passion for making a positive difference in pupils’ lives
Desirable
- Experience in a specialist SEN or autism setting
- Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods
- Understanding of sensory processing needs
- Relevant qualifications in education, childcare or care work
- Team Teach or similar behaviour training
