About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to support pupils with Profound and Multiple Learning Disabilities (PMLD) in a specialist educational setting.

This highly rewarding role involves working closely with pupils who have complex needs, including physical disabilities, sensory impairments, and medical requirements, supporting them to access education in a meaningful and engaging way.

You will play a vital role in helping students develop communication, independence, and life skills within a nurturing and supportive environment.


Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with PMLD
  • Assist with personal care needs, including feeding, toileting, and mobility
  • Support sensory-based learning activities and therapeutic programmes
  • Use communication methods such as PECS, Makaton, or visual aids
  • Work alongside teachers and therapists to deliver personalised learning plans
  • Support students with physical needs, including use of specialist equipment
  • Encourage engagement, interaction, and emotional wellbeing
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment
  • Follow safeguarding and medical protocols at all times

Requirements

  • Experience working with children or young people with complex needs
  • A caring, patient, and resilient nature
  • Willingness to support with personal care
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills
  • Ability to remain calm and adaptable in a dynamic environment
  • Genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional and complex needs

Desirable

  • Experience in a PMLD or specialist SEN setting
  • Knowledge of sensory integration or therapeutic approaches
  • Experience with hoisting/manual handling (training can be provided)
  • Familiarity with communication tools such as Makaton or PECS
  • Team Teach or similar behaviour support training
