About the Role
Monarch Education is seeking a dedicated and resilient Support Worker to work within an Alternative Provision setting, supporting children and young people with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
This rewarding role involves working with pupils who may have experienced barriers to education, trauma, adverse childhood experiences (ACEs), or behavioural challenges. You will play a vital role in helping students re-engage with learning, develop positive relationships, and achieve both personal and educational success.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEMH needs.
- Build positive, professional relationships that promote trust, engagement and emotional wellbeing.
- Support pupils in managing emotions, behaviour and social interactions.
- Implement behaviour support strategies and individual intervention plans.
- Encourage participation in learning activities and promote a positive attitude towards education.
- Support students during lessons, enrichment activities and unstructured times throughout the school day.
- Work closely with teachers, pastoral teams, families and external agencies to support pupil progress.
- Maintain accurate records of incidents, progress and interventions where required.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults in an educational, care or support setting.
- Knowledge or understanding of SEMH needs, challenging behaviour, trauma-informed practice or alternative provision environments.
- Strong communication, relationship-building and de-escalation skills.
- A patient, resilient and empathetic approach.
- Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations.
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of young people.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEND school, youth work, residential care, support work or mentoring role.
- Understanding of restorative approaches and behaviour management strategies.
