Complex Needs Support Assistant

Location: Oldbury
Hours: 32.5 hours per week (8:30am – 3:30pm)
Start Date: September 2026
Contract Type: Temporary (with potential to become permanent)


Important – Qualification Requirement Applicants MUST hold one of the following to be considered:

  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Childcare, Education or Health & Social Care
  • A relevant degree related to Education, Psychology, SEND, Child Development or Health & Social Care

This specialist provision supports secondary-aged pupils with a wide range of additional needs, including:

  • Profound and Multiple Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
  • Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD)
  • Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
  • Complex medical needs
  • Physical disabilities
  • Communication and interaction difficulties
  • Sensory processing needs

This is a highly rewarding opportunity for someone who is passionate about supporting young people with complex needs to access education, develop independence and celebrate their achievements, no matter how big or small. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide tailored support to pupils with complex SEND needs both in and outside the classroom
  • Support students on a 1:1 basis and in small groups
  • Assist pupils with communication, social interaction and emotional development
  • Help students access learning through sensory, practical and personalised activities
  • Support personal care, feeding and mobility requirements where needed
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist professionals
  • Use communication strategies and visual support tools to encourage engagement
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive outcomes for all learners
  • Create a safe, supportive and nurturing learning environment

What We’re Looking For

  • Level 2 or Level 3 qualification in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care or a relevant degree (essential)
  • Experience supporting children, young people or adults with SEND, learning disabilities, autism or complex needs
  • A patient, resilient and caring approach
  • The ability to build positive relationships and encourage learner independence
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • A willingness to support personal care needs when required
  • Experience in specialist schools, healthcare, residential care, support work or community care environments is highly desirable
