They are seeking a caring and resilient 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to provide dedicated support for a child with additional learning needs. About the Role
As a 1:1 Learning Support Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting a pupil throughout the school day, helping them access learning, build confidence, and develop positive relationships with their peers and staff.
Working closely with the class teacher, SENCO, and wider pastoral team, you will implement tailored support strategies that enable the child to fully engage with the curriculum whilst promoting their independence and personal development.
The successful candidate will understand that every child is unique and will bring patience, empathy, and consistency to their approach, helping create a safe and nurturing environment where the pupil can succeed.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated one-to-one support for a pupil with additional learning needs.
- Support the child in accessing classroom activities and participating in lessons.
- Build a trusting and positive relationship that promotes confidence and self-esteem.
- Implement individual support plans and tailored interventions.
- Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation using agreed strategies.
- Support the development of social skills and positive peer interactions.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, the SENCO, and external professionals where required.
- Monitor progress and provide feedback on the pupil’s achievements and development.
- Adapt learning activities to meet the pupil’s individual needs.
- Help create an inclusive environment where all children feel valued and supported.

Essential Requirements
- Previous experience working with children in an educational, care, youth work, or support setting.
- A genuine desire to support children with SEND and additional learning needs.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
Desirable Experience
- Experience supporting children with:
- Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC)
- ADHD
- SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs)
- Speech and Language needs
- Learning difficulties
While experience in these areas is advantageous, the school values attitude, compassion, and willingness to learn just as highly.
