About the School
Monarch Education are working with a specialist provision in the DE1area of Derby, supporting children and young people who may have experienced trauma, behavioural difficulties, SEMH needs and challenges with emotional regulation.
The provision offers a structured, nurturing environment for pupils who require additional support to feel safe, build positive relationships and engage successfully with education.
About the Role
Monarch Education is recruiting a patient and resilient Learning Support Assistant to work with children and young people with behavioural and emotional needs.
You will provide 1:1, small group and classroom support, helping pupils manage their emotions, develop positive behaviours and build trusting relationships with adults and peers.
This role would suit someone who is calm, consistent and understanding, with the confidence to support children who may present with challenging behaviour.
Key Responsibilities
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Support children with behavioural, emotional and trauma-related needs.
- Provide 1:1 and small group support.
- Help pupils regulate emotions and manage challenging situations.
- Encourage positive behaviour and engagement with learning.
- Support pupils with social skills, confidence and resilience.
- Use a calm and consistent approach to behaviour.
- Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff.
- Follow individual behaviour and support plans.
- Maintain a safe, supportive and nurturing environment.
Essential Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with additional or behavioural needs.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour.
- Ability to build strong and appropriate relationships.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Experience within a specialist school, SEND setting or Alternative Provision.
- Experience supporting pupils with SEMH or behavioural needs.
- Experience working with children who have experienced trauma.
- Youth work, support work, care or mentoring experience.
- Team Teach or positive behaviour management training.
