About the School
Monarch Education are working with a specialist provision in the DE24 area of Derby, supporting children and young people with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, emotional regulation difficulties and additional learning needs.
The school provides a structured and nurturing environment for pupils who may have experienced difficulties within mainstream education and require a more individualised approach to learning.
About the Role
Monarch Education is recruiting a confident and adaptable SEMH Teacher to support pupils within a specialist setting.
You will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging and accessible lessons, adapting teaching to meet individual needs and helping pupils overcome barriers to learning.
A key part of the role will be building strong relationships with pupils, maintaining clear and consistent boundaries and creating a positive classroom environment where young people can re-engage with education.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver engaging lessons tailored to individual needs.
- Teach pupils with SEMH and behavioural needs.
- Adapt learning to suit different abilities and learning styles.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Manage challenging behaviour calmly and consistently.
- Support pupils to re-engage with education.
- Monitor and assess pupil progress.
- Work closely with Teaching Assistants, pastoral teams and wider professionals.
- Maintain a safe, structured and supportive classroom environment.
Essential Requirements
- QTS, QTLS or relevant teaching qualification.
- Experience teaching children or young people.
- Strong classroom and behaviour management skills.
- A calm, resilient and adaptable approach.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils who may find education challenging.
- Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- Previous experience teaching within an SEMH, SEND, Alternative Provision or PRU setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with challenging behaviour.
- Understanding of trauma-informed approaches.
- Experience adapting the curriculum for pupils with additional needs.
- Team Teach or positive behaviour management training.
- Experience working with pupils who have struggled to engage in mainstream education.
