The Role

As a SEND Teaching Assistant, you will:

  • Support pupils with SEND within the Resource Base and mainstream classroom settings.
  • Work closely with children on a one-to-one basis and in small groups to meet individual learning targets.
  • Assist in implementing EHCP outcomes and personalised support plans.
  • Support pupils’ communication, social, emotional, and behavioural development.
  • Adapt learning activities to meet the needs of individual pupils.
  • Promote independence, confidence, and self-esteem.
  • Use positive behaviour support strategies to help pupils regulate and engage in learning.
  • Build strong relationships with pupils, parents, teaching staff, and external professionals.
  • Contribute to creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support sensory and therapeutic approaches where appropriate.

What We’re Looking For

We would love to hear from candidates who:

  • Have experience working with children or young people with SEND.
  • Have knowledge of additional needs such as Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), ADHD, Speech and Language Needs, or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs.
  • Are patient, empathetic, and resilient.
  • Have strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Are passionate about inclusive education.
  • Can build positive relationships and establish trust with pupils.
  • Are adaptable, proactive, and committed to supporting individual needs.
  • Have experience in schools, specialist settings, care, support work, youth work, or similar environments.
