Teaching Assistant

Monarch Education is recruiting for a SEN Teaching Assistant / SEND Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming specialist school in the Erdington area.

This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with experience supporting children, young people or adults with additional needs who is looking to build a long-term career within a specialist SEN school.

Please note: You must have previous UK-based experience supporting children, young people or adults with SEN, additional needs or disabilities to be considered for this position.

The Role

You will work alongside teachers and other support staff to provide hands-on support to pupils with a range of additional needs. Pupils may require support with their learning, communication, emotional regulation, independence and day-to-day routines.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Providing 1:1 and small group SEN support
• Supporting pupils with autism (ASC), learning difficulties and communication needs
• Helping pupils access classroom activities and individual learning programmes
• Supporting EHCP targets and personalised learning plans
• Using visual aids, structured routines and communication strategies
• Supporting pupils with sensory and emotional regulation
• Promoting positive behaviour and helping pupils manage challenging situations
• Encouraging independence, confidence and social interaction
• Supporting with personal care when required
• Working closely with teachers and other SEN professionals to provide consistent support

Essential Requirements

• Previous UK-based experience supporting children, young people or adults with SEN/additional needs
• A calm, patient and nurturing approach
• Confidence working with individuals who may have communication or sensory needs
• Ability to build positive relationships while maintaining professional boundaries
• Reliable, proactive and able to work effectively as part of a team
• Willingness to support with personal care when required

Desirable Experience

Experience supporting any of the following would be beneficial:

• Autism / ASC
• Moderate learning difficulties (MLD)
• Complex needs
• Communication difficulties
• Sensory processing needs
• Global developmental delay
• Physical disabilities
• Social, emotional or behavioural needs
• PECS, Makaton or other communication strategies

A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification would be beneficial but is not essential if you have strong relevant experience.
