AS & A Level Sociology Teacher with Criminology – Agency Role

Applications without a Sociology degree, teacher‑training qualification, and evidence of A‑Level teaching experience (shown clearly on your CV) will not be considered.

We are currently recruiting for a dedicated and knowledgeable Sociology Teacher to deliver AS Sociology, A Level Sociology, and the WJEC Criminology Diploma at a supportive FE/secondary setting. This is a part‑time specialist role, offering a fantastic opportunity to work with motivated KS5 learners and contribute to a high‑performing Social Sciences department.

Location: Birmingham
Start Date: After Half Term
Contract Type: Long‑term, Agency
Working Hours: 7.5 hours per week
Timetable:

  • Tuesday 9:00-10:45 – AS Sociology
  • Tuesday 11:00-12:15 – AS Sociology
  • Tuesday 15:00-17:00 – A Level Sociology
  • Friday 13:00-15:00 – WJEC Criminology Diploma

The Ideal Candidate Will Have:

  • A degree in Sociology (essential)
  • A recognised teacher‑training qualification (PGCE / QTS / QTLS / CertEd)
  • Proven experience teaching A‑Level Sociology
  • Experience teaching or supporting WJEC Criminology (desirable)
    • Criminology may also suit applicants with Law teaching experience due to curriculum overlap
  • Strong subject knowledge and confidence teaching exam‑based content
  • Excellent behaviour management and rapport‑building skills
  • A commitment to high standards, inclusive teaching, and student progress
  • An enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and deliver engaging KS5 lessons across AS Sociology, A Level Sociology and Criminology
  • Prepare students for assessments, mock papers, and external examinations
  • Apply strong assessment for learning to monitor and track progress
  • Provide tailored support and stretch/challenge for mixed‑ability groups
  • Support the wider department with planning, specification knowledge and academic standards
  • Maintain a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment for all learners
