About the Role

We are seeking a proactive, organised and committed Attendance Officer to join our busy secondary school in Bristol. You will play a vital role in improving student attendance, working closely with students, families, and staff to ensure every pupil has the best chance of success.

The role will involve daily attendance monitoring, first-day calling, supporting vulnerable pupils, and contributing to wider safeguarding and pastoral work. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about making a real difference in young people’s lives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and track daily student attendance and punctuality.
  • Make first-day absence calls and follow up on unexplained absences.
  • Work closely with Heads of Year, pastoral teams, and senior leaders on attendance strategies.
  • Meet with students and families to address attendance concerns and set improvement plans.
  • Prepare attendance reports and data summaries for internal and external use.
  • Ensure accurate use of the school’s MIS and maintain up-to-date records.
  • Support safeguarding procedures when attendance issues raise concerns.
  • Promote positive attitudes toward attendance across the school.

What We’re Looking For

  • Strong administrative and organisational skills.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to engage students and families professionally.
  • Confidence in working with sensitive information and maintaining confidentiality.
  • Experience in a school, pastoral, or administrative environment is desirable but not essential.
  • Ability to remain calm, approachable, and solution-focused under pressure.
  • A commitment to improving outcomes for young people.
