About the Provision

Monarch Education are working with an Alternative Provision in Derby that supports pupils from KS1 to KS4 who require additional support to engage with education. The provision offers a structured and nurturing environment for young people who may be at risk of exclusion, have experienced challenges within mainstream education, or require a more tailored approach to learning.

The provision supports pupils with SEMH needs, behavioural challenges, additional learning needs, communication difficulties and barriers that impact engagement, attendance and emotional regulation.

About the Role

Monarch Education is recruiting a resilient and compassionate Behaviour Mentor to support pupils within an Alternative Provision setting.

This rewarding role involves working closely with children and young people who may display challenging behaviours, struggle with emotional regulation, or be at risk of exclusion. You will act as a positive role model, helping pupils build confidence, develop coping strategies and re-engage with learning.

Working alongside teachers, pastoral teams and wider professionals, you will provide both 1:1 and small group support to help pupils achieve positive outcomes.

Key Responsibilities

• Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
• Provide 1:1 and small group behavioural support.
• Support pupils at risk of exclusion to engage with learning.
• Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
• Help pupils develop social skills, resilience and self-confidence.
• Support de-escalation and behaviour intervention strategies.
• Work closely with teachers and pastoral staff to implement support plans.
• Monitor pupil progress, engagement and wellbeing.
• Encourage attendance, participation and positive outcomes.
• Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

• Experience working with children or young people with behavioural needs.
• A calm, patient and resilient approach.
• Ability to build strong relationships and establish boundaries.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• Confidence managing challenging behaviour.
• Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

• Experience within an Alternative Provision, PRU or specialist setting.
• Experience supporting pupils with SEMH needs.
• Youth work, support work, sports coaching or mentoring experience.
• Knowledge of restorative practices and behaviour support strategies.
• Team Teach or positive behaviour management training.
• Experience working with pupils at risk of exclusion.
