Behaviour Support Assistant (SEMH – Key Stage 1) – Bury

We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Behaviour Support Assistant/Behaviour Mentor to join a primary school in Bury, working in exclusive partnership with Monarch Education.

This full-time role focuses on providing 1:1 support for a Key Stage 1 pupil with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. At times, the pupil can display challenging or disruptive behaviours, and the successful candidate will be able to make effective use of de-escalation techniques, remain calm under pressure, and build strong, trusting relationships to support the child’s wellbeing and learning.

Hours are 8.30am-3.30pm, Monday to Friday, term-time only.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work 1:1 with a KS1 pupil with SEMH needs, acting as a Behaviour Mentor
  • Support with behaviour regulation and emotional wellbeing in order to engage pupil with their learning
  • Implement de-escalation strategies and promote positive behaviour
  • Create a safe, structured, and supportive environment both in and out of the classroom
  • Collaborate with teachers, SENCO, and external professionals to deliver support

Requirements:

  • Experience as a Behaviour Mentor or supporting children with SEMH in schools is advantageous but not essential
  • Transferable skills from roles such as care work, residential support, youth work, or mental health support are welcomed
  • Psychology graduates (and similar fields) are encouraged to apply
  • Strong communication, patience, and resilience are essential
  • A proactive and empathetic approach to supporting pupils
