Careers Advisor – Further Education
Permanent | Term-Time Only (38 Weeks) | 36.5 Hours per Week
£27,195 – £29,897 FTE per annum
Monarch Education is recruiting on behalf of a further education college in Birmingham for a Careers Advisor to join their Student Services team. This is a full-time, term-time only permanent position supporting students with careers guidance and wider student support.
Location: Birmingham – post-holders may be required to work across multiple college centres
Reporting to: Careers Coordinator
Provide careers information, advice, and guidance to potential and current students
Conduct one-to-one interviews and group sessions on employment, education, and training
Support the day-to-day running of Student Services, offering frontline support across a range of student needs
Deliver tailored careers guidance to students
Provide initial advice on admissions, welfare, and support services
Prepare and deliver group sessions on employability, progression routes, and higher education
Contribute to the development of careers education across the college
Promote careers and student services events
Maintain up-to-date careers resources in line with IAG standards
Participate in IAG network activities and maintain external agency links
Keep accurate records and use appropriate systems for tracking and reporting
Support marketing events and exhibitions
Provide regular statistics and contribute to service reports
Stay informed about local and national labour market trends and college educational offers (including apprenticeships and T-Levels)
Essential:
Level 6 qualification in Careers/IAG
Experience working in Careers/IAG
Good knowledge of careers-related IT applications
Strong IT skills including Microsoft Office and MIS systems
Experience working within a team
High-level communication, empathy, and listening skills
Strong administrative and organisational skills
Demonstrable numeracy and literacy skills
Ability to work flexibly and use own initiative
Experience working under pressure and to tight deadlines
Proven record of achievement against objectives and targets
Desirable:
Experience working in Careers within the further education/post-16 sector
Familiarity with IAG quality standards
