About the Role
We are currently recruiting for a compassionate and committed Teaching Assistant to support pupils with complex needs within a specialist educational setting.
This role is ideal for individuals with experience supporting students with a range of additional needs, including learning difficulties, physical disabilities, autism, and medical needs.
You will play a key role in supporting pupils’ learning, independence, communication, and emotional wellbeing in a safe and nurturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with complex needs
- Assist in the delivery of personalised learning programmes tailored to individual pupils
- Support pupils with daily routines, including personal care if required
- Use strategies to support communication, including PECS, Makaton, or visual aids
- Foster independence, confidence, and life skills development
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and support staff
- Promote a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
- Support behaviour management in line with school policies
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people with complex needs or SEND (desirable)
- A patient, caring, and adaptable approach
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team
- Willingness to support with personal care needs
Desirable
- Experience supporting pupils with autism, PMLD, or physical disabilities
- Knowledge of communication tools such as Makaton, PECS, or AAC devices
- Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
- Background in care, support work, or specialist education settings
- Understanding of sensory needs and regulation strategies
