FIRST AIDER

We are looking for a school first aider to work at a busy secondary school in the heart of Walsall.

The school are looking for someone to start as soon as possible, on an ongoing long term basis. This is a full time position working Monday to Friday 08.00 – 16.00

As a vital part of the school community you will provide first line first aid support to all staff and students. From minor scrapes to more serious incidents, you will be on hand to provide an effective and efficient first aid response to all. You must be quick thinking, compassionate and committed to upholding high standards for children’s safety and wellbeing.

**You must be fully First Aid trained and hold a valid First Aid Certificate**

Your main areas of responsibility will include:

• First line first aid support for students and staff
• Dealing with emergencies on site, assessing situation and needs and acting accordingly
• Directing colleagues to assist as required for the welfare of pupils.
• Arranging training and/or information sessions to make staff aware of individual needs.
• Engaging with pupils and their families to establish records and procedures
• Accompanying pupils to hospital in an emergency if required and staying until parents arrive
• Keeping records of incidents and the pupils who seek advice
• Being available as a ‘drop in’ resource for pupils
• Being the initial point of contact for pupils who are dealing with a range of issues, for example, family problems, relationships in and out of school, bullying, depression, truancy, absence, bereavement, eating disorders, sexual health, diet, hygiene
• Liaising with pastoral staff and Vice Principal to support pupils and to help with dealing with issues of concern
• Referring safeguarding concerns to the DSL.
• Ensuring Individual Health Care Plans (IHCPs) are in place for pupils.
• Maintaining accurate records.
• Liaising and communicating with parents about pupils’ needs.
• First Aid at school events e.g Sports Day
• Liaising with other healthcare professionals
• Management of medicines and equipment
• Being responsible for first aid kits kept at locations around school and replacing out of date items eg bandages, plasters and eye wash pouches
