Graduate SEN Support Assistant – Bury

Are you a recent Psychology, Criminology or Social Sciences graduate looking to build valuable experience working with children and young people? We are offering an exciting opportunity for graduates to gain hands-on experience as a Graduate SEN & SEMH Support Assistant within a primary and/or secondary school setting.

This role is the perfect stepping stone for those considering careers in Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Social Work, Youth Justice, Teaching, or Mental Health support services. You will work directly with pupils who have Special Educational Needs (SEN) and/or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, developing practical skills in behaviour support, communication, and intervention strategies.

Hours are 8.30am-3.30pm, Monday to Friday, term-time only.

Exclusive Training & Development:

As part of this role, you will have access to exclusive training delivered by former Headteachers, designed to prepare you for success in the classroom and beyond. This bespoke training covers:

• Understanding SEN and SEMH needs
• Positive behaviour management and de-escalation strategies
• Safeguarding and child protection
• Practical classroom support techniques

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide 1:1 and small group support for pupils with SEN and SEMH needs
• Assist in the implementation of individual support plans
• Support pupils in managing emotions, building resilience, and engaging in learning
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and specialist staff
• Act as a positive role model and mentor for children

Requirements:

• A degree in Psychology, Criminology, Sociology, or a related field
• A genuine interest in supporting children with diverse needs
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills
• Patience, resilience, and a proactive attitude
• Previous experience with children (school, care, youth work, or volunteering) is desirable but not essential
