The Opportunity:

We are seeking an experienced Lead Teacher to oversee a cohort of Year 5 pupils entering the school from September 2025. This pivotal role involves taking responsibility for a dedicated group of pupils, supporting their transition into the school, and providing targeted teaching and pastoral support to meet their unique needs. The successful candidate will work closely with the school’s specialist team to develop and implement bespoke learning plans, ensuring each pupil’s progression and well-being are prioritised.

Job Description:

As the Lead Teacher for this Year 5 cohort at the Nuneaton SEMH school, your responsibilities will include:

  • Leading the Cohort: Taking responsibility for the academic and social development of the Year 5 pupils entering in September. Providing consistent, high-quality teaching tailored to their individual needs.
  • Curriculum Delivery: Planning, preparing, and delivering engaging lessons aligned with the pupils’ capabilities and needs, ensuring a smooth transition into the school environment.
  • Pupil Progress and Assessment: Monitoring and assessing each pupil’s progress, using formative and summative assessment strategies to inform teaching and support planning.
  • Supporting Transition: Facilitating a positive induction for pupils entering Year 5, helping them settle into the new environment and build confidence.
  • Collaborative Approach: Working closely with the school’s SENCO, support staff, and external professionals to deliver holistic support and interventions.
  • Pastoral and Emotional Support: Providing emotional guidance and pastoral care to promote social and emotional development, fostering a safe and supportive atmosphere.
  • Environment Management: Creating a positive, inclusive, and stimulating classroom environment that encourages engagement and confidence.
  • Resource Utilisation: Managing resources effectively to enhance learning experiences.
  • Professional Development: Engaging in ongoing training and development opportunities to enhance your skills in supporting pupils with SEMH needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential.
  • Proven experience as a Primary Class Teacher, ideally with experience working with pupils with SEMH needs.
  • Strong understanding of the KS1/KS2 curriculum and pedagogical approaches.
  • Experience in leading a class or cohort is desirable.
  • Excellent classroom management skills and the ability to differentiate instruction.
  • Compassionate, patient, and committed to supporting the diverse needs of young learners.
  • Strong communication and collaboration skills.
