This supply opportunity offers the chance to work within a supportive Weston-super-Mare school, delivering Maths across Key Stages 3 and 4, with potential Key Stage 5 teaching depending on experience. You will help maintain consistency in the classroom, support pupil progress, and encourage learners to develop strong numeracy, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
Role Overview
We are looking to appoint a supply Maths Teacher to support a secondary school in Weston-super-Mare. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality Maths lessons, create a purposeful and inclusive learning environment, and ensure pupils remain engaged, challenged, and supported throughout their learning.
This role would suit a flexible and committed teacher with strong subject knowledge and effective classroom management, whether you are an experienced practitioner seeking your next supply opportunity or an Early Career Teacher looking to build valuable classroom experience in a supportive secondary setting.
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver engaging Maths lessons across KS3 and KS4, with potential KS5 teaching depending on experience
* Adapt planning and teaching to meet a range of abilities, learning needs, and school expectations
* Assess, monitor, and record pupil progress in line with school policy and lesson objectives
* Create a positive and well-managed classroom environment that supports learning and high expectations
* Differentiate effectively to support all learners, including pupils with SEND, EAL, or varying levels of confidence in Maths
* Work collaboratively with department staff and school leaders to ensure continuity in pupils’ learning
* Provide constructive feedback that helps pupils develop mathematical understanding, fluency, and problem-solving skills
* Uphold safeguarding responsibilities and follow all school policies and procedures at all times
Required Skills & Behaviours
- Strong subject knowledge in Mathematics and the ability to deliver lessons clearly and confidently
* Effective classroom and behaviour management skills that support a calm and purposeful learning environment
* Ability to engage and motivate pupils with varied learning needs and levels of attainment
* Organised, dependable, and adaptable approach to long-term supply teaching within a busy secondary school
* Clear communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, pupils, and parents where required
* Commitment to high standards of teaching, professionalism, and safeguarding
Qualifications & Experience
- Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) is essential
* Previous experience teaching Maths in a UK secondary school setting is highly desirable
* Confidence teaching Maths across KS3 and KS4; KS5 experience is advantageous but not essential
* Good understanding of the UK secondary curriculum and current assessment expectations
* Enhanced DBS on the update service, or willingness to obtain one
* Right to work in the UK and willingness to complete all required safeguarding and compliance checks
