Monarch Education is working in partnership with a well‑established primary school in Rochdale to appoint a committed and professional Pastoral Support Assistant. This role offers an excellent opportunity for an individual with a strong background in pastoral care, pupil wellbeing, or behavioural support to contribute to a supportive and inclusive school environment.

Role Overview

The successful candidate will play a key role in supporting pupils with a range of social, emotional and behavioural needs. Working under the direction of senior staff, you will provide targeted interventions, assist with the development of personalised support plans, and help ensure that pupils feel safe, valued and ready to engage positively in their learning.

Key Responsibilities

  • Delivering 1:1 and small‑group pastoral interventions
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, resilience and self‑esteem
  • Assisting with behaviour management using a positive and proactive approach
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress and wellbeing
  • Liaising with class teachers, the SENCO, safeguarding leads and external agencies where appropriate
  • Contributing to a nurturing, calm and supportive learning environment

Candidate Requirements

The school is seeking a candidate who demonstrates:

  • Previous experience in pastoral support, youth work, special educational needs, mentoring or a related field
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • A sensitive, patient and professional approach when supporting pupils
  • The ability to respond effectively to a range of emotional and behavioural needs
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children
