About the Role

We are seeking a caring, reliable, and safety‑conscious Personal Car Assistant to support student transport for a school in Wellingborough. This role involves assisting pupils during journeys, ensuring their wellbeing, and helping maintain positive, calm, and safe travel experiences.

You will be supporting children-including those with additional needs-on their way to and from school or during off‑site activities. The ideal candidate will be compassionate, patient, and confident when managing varied needs and behaviours.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist pupils during school transport, ensuring their comfort and safety at all times.
  • Support students entering and exiting the vehicle, using appropriate equipment (seatbelts, harnesses, specialist aids).
  • Promote calm, positive behaviour and use suitable de-escalation approaches when needed.
  • Communicate effectively with drivers, staff, parents, and carers.
  • Follow safeguarding procedures and report any concerns promptly.
  • Prepare for journeys by checking equipment, student lists, and any specific requirements.
  • Assist pupils on school trips, appointments, and off‑site activities.
  • Maintain confidentiality and uphold school values during all journeys.
  • Represent the school in a professional and supportive manner.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Genuine interest in supporting children and young people.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Calm, patient, and reliable with a strong focus on safety.
  • Ability to respond appropriately to challenging situations.
  • Willingness to complete safeguarding and other required training.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with staff and families.

Desirable

  • Experience supporting children, especially those with SEND or behavioural needs.
  • Knowledge of positive behaviour management strategies.
  • First Aid training (or willingness to undertake training).
  • Previous experience in a school or transport‑support role.
