About the Role
We are seeking a caring and dedicated Personal Care Assistant to join a specialist school in Derby from September 2026.
This rewarding role involves supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs, including complex learning difficulties, physical disabilities, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), and medical needs. You will play a vital role in ensuring pupils can access education safely, comfortably, and with dignity while promoting independence and wellbeing.
Working as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, you will help create a nurturing environment where every pupil is encouraged to reach their full potential.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide personal care support to pupils throughout the school day.
- Assist with feeding, toileting, changing, and hygiene routines as required.
- Support pupils with mobility and physical needs.
- Encourage independence and development of life skills.
- Assist pupils in accessing learning activities and the wider curriculum.
- Follow individual care plans, risk assessments, and EHCP targets.
- Work closely with teachers, therapists, and healthcare professionals.
- Monitor pupil wellbeing and report any concerns appropriately.
- Promote a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
- Follow safeguarding, health and safety, and moving and handling procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Experience working with children, young people, or adults requiring care and support.
- A compassionate, patient, and professional approach.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to support pupils with personal care needs while maintaining dignity and respect.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
- Willingness to undertake relevant training.
Desirable
- Previous experience in a school, care, residential, or healthcare setting.
- Experience supporting individuals with SEN, disabilities, or complex needs.
- Knowledge of moving and handling procedures.
- First Aid, Manual Handling, or Care-related qualifications.
- Understanding of EHCPs and person-centred support.
- Relevant qualifications in Health & Social Care, Childcare, or a related field.
