Monarch Education are proud to be working with a SEMH school in Birmingham providing tailored education for secondary-aged students who have social, emotional, or mental health challenges that impact their learning and behaviour.

As an SEMH Primary Teacher, you will be responsible for planning and delivering engaging, differentiated lessons that support the emotional and academic development of pupils with SEMH needs. You will create a nurturing classroom environment that promotes emotional regulation, social skills, and resilience, ensuring each child feels safe, valued, and motivated to learn.

It is essential in this role to have sound knowledge of the National Primary Curriculum and have experience within a SEND, Alternative Provision, PRU or a challenging mainstream school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Adapted for children with SEMH needs. Building trusting relationships with students to promote engagement, confidence, and emotional regulation.
  • Planning and delivering engaging lessons across the primary curriculum, adapted for children with SEMH needs.
  • Building positive relationships and establishing a secure environment to support emotional well-being.
  • Using trauma-informed and positive behaviour management strategies to support students’ emotional and behavioural needs.
  • Supporting the development of social skills, emotional regulation, independence, and resilience.
  • Monitoring and assessing pupil progress, providing feedback, and adapting teaching approaches accordingly.
  • Supporting children with personal care and sensory needs where required

Requirements:

  • Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) or equivalent.
  • Experience teaching primary-aged children, ideally within SEMH, SEN, or alternative education settings.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices and positive behaviour management.
  • Compassionate, patient, and resilient with a genuine passion for supporting vulnerable children.
