Motor Vehicle Instructor / Mechanic
Help Young People Find Their Direction Through Practical Learning
Do you believe that some of the best learning happens with a spanner in hand rather than behind a desk?
Are you passionate about the motor trade and keen to pass your knowledge on to the next generation?
Can you build positive relationships with young people who may have struggled in mainstream education but thrive through practical, vocational learning?
At Monarch Education, we are recruiting on behalf of an Independent Specialist School looking for a dedicated Motor Vehicle Instructor / Mechanic to support young people with SEND, SEMH and additional learning needs through engaging, hands-on learning.
Many of the learners you will work with have struggled to engage with traditional education. They benefit from practical experiences, clear boundaries and trusted adults who can help them develop confidence, skills and aspirations for the future.

- Trauma-related needs
- Behavioural challenges
- EHCPs
Small class sizes and strong pastoral support mean you’ll have the opportunity to build meaningful relationships and make a genuine difference.
What You’ll Be Doing
No two days will look the same.
You could be:
- Delivering practical and theory-based motor vehicle sessions
- Teaching maintenance, repair and workshop skills
- Breaking down technical concepts into clear, manageable steps
- Supporting learners with SEND and SEMH needs
- Embedding English, Maths and employability skills into lessons
- Building positive, respectful relationships with learners
- Supporting emotional regulation and engagement

- Teaching safe tool use and workshop practices
- Contributing towards EHCP outcomes and learner targets
- Tracking progress, attendance and achievement
- Acting as a positive role model within the workshop environment
What Success Looks Like
Success isn’t always measured by qualifications alone.
Sometimes success is:
- A learner attending every session for a week
- A young person completing a task independently
- Improved confidence in the workshop
- Better emotional regulation and engagement
- Developing workplace behaviours and teamworking skills
- Achieving an accredited vocational unit
- Building aspirations for employment or further education
- Taking pride in a finished piece of work
These moments often become the foundation for long-term success.
