Secondary Supply Teaching Assistant (SEN Experience) | April 2026 Start

Location: Gloucester
Contract: Full-Time Supply (Monday-Friday)
Hours: 8:15am – 3:15pm
Salary: £105.89 – £133.68 per day (DOE)

Are you patient, proactive, and passionate about supporting young people with additional needs? We are recruiting dedicated Secondary Supply Teaching Assistants with SEN experience to work across a range of secondary schools in Gloucester. Whether you have experience in school settings, have worked in care or youth support roles, or are a graduate considering a future in education, we would love to hear from you.

Working as a Supply TA provides a rewarding chance to support learners who benefit from extra guidance, while gaining experience across a variety of classroom environments. You’ll work alongside teachers, SENCOs, and pastoral teams to help students overcome barriers and achieve their potential. Many short‑term placements naturally develop into longer‑term roles, making this an excellent stepping stone into SEND support, pastoral work, or teacher training.

Secondary schools in Gloucester pride themselves on their inclusive ethos, strong support systems, and welcoming staff teams. With a focus on wellbeing, personalised learning, and positive relationships, these schools offer environments where both students and staff can grow. As an SEN‑experienced Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a key part in helping learners feel supported, confident, and ready to succeed.

About the Role

As a Secondary Supply Teaching Assistant, you will support KS3 and KS4 students with a range of needs, including autism, ADHD, SEMH, learning difficulties, and more. You may provide 1:1 support, assist in small groups, or help within the wider classroom. Your role will involve reinforcing routines, promoting independence, and ensuring all students can access the curriculum.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 or small‑group support to students with SEN
  • Assist with behaviour regulation, emotional wellbeing, and positive routines
  • Help deliver lesson content, adapting tasks where required
  • Work closely with teachers, SENCOs, and support teams
  • Encourage engagement, confidence, and independence in learning
  • Promote a calm, structured, and inclusive classroom environment
  • Build strong, supportive relationships with students and staff
  • Uphold safeguarding, student welfare, and school values throughout

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting young people with SEN (school, care, youth work, mentoring, etc.)
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to build rapport
  • Understanding of behaviour needs, learning differences, or social/emotional needs
  • A patient, resilient, and positive approach to each day
  • Ability to adapt quickly to different roles and school settings
  • Commitment to safeguarding and professional conduct
  • Suitable for TAs, SEN support workers, graduates, or those exploring a SEND career path
