Monarch Education, part of Affinity Workforce, is proud to be recruiting on behalf of a specialist Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) school in the Worcester area (name anonymised for confidentiality). The school provides a highly supportive, therapeutic and structured environment for pupils aged 5-16 who present with:

  • Social, emotional and behavioural needs
  • Trauma‑related barriers to learning
  • Anxiety, low self‑esteem and attachment needs
  • Challenging behaviours
  • Additional learning needs (e.g., ASD, ADHD, speech and language difficulties)

Key Responsibilities

  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle to engage
  • Support challenging behaviours using de‑escalation and therapeutic approaches
  • Work 1:1 or in small groups to help pupils regulate emotions and re‑engage with learning
  • Implement behaviour plans and personalised support strategies
  • Encourage routines, emotional regulation and positive communication
  • Work alongside teachers, pastoral leads and external professionals
  • Create an inclusive, safe and consistent classroom environment
  • Promote independence, confidence and positive behaviour

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience supporting children or young people with SEMH, challenging behaviour or trauma (essential)
  • Background in education, youth work, residential care, mental health or SEN
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (desirable)
  • Calm, confident and empathetic approach
  • Strong behaviour management skills
  • Ability to build rapport quickly and support pupils through difficult moments
  • Resilience and a genuine passion for helping young people succeed
