Full Time 8:30am-3:30pm

We are proud to partner with a Specialist SEND Primary school in Birmingham, seeking out a Learning Mentor. While a qualified learning mentor is not necessary, applicants must have some experience working with SEND/PMLD students.

Applicants will be expected to support the educational journey of students with special educational needs, follow individualised learning plans (EHCP’s), and collaborate with teachers.

What actually is the role?

You would be working in a special school for students who have cognition and learning difficulties, in addition to physical disabilities and/or complex health care needs. The actual role itself, would involve guiding special needs children through their educational journey, with the use of sensory play, assisted learning and music therapy. You would be collaborating with Teachers and parents to overall improve the children’s day to day life.

Requirements to apply:

  • SOME experience with SEND. We will accept experience outside of a school setting
  • Experience working in a school or education-based setting preferred but not essential
  • A knowledge of PMLD, BSL or Makaton would be a HUGE advantage
  • The willingness to provide personal care

The following skills would be advantageous:

  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with students, their families, and other professionals involved in their education
  • Patience and empathy to support and understand the unique needs and challenges faced by students with special needs
  • Knowledge of various learning strategies and accommodations to help students with different disabilities succeed in their education
  • Ability to build positive relationships and create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs
