About the Role
We are seeking a caring and dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school from September 2026.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with complex learning needs, including Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Severe Learning Difficulties (SLD), Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD), communication needs, and associated physical or sensory needs. You will work closely with teaching and support staff to help pupils access learning, develop independence, and achieve their individual goals.
Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will play a key role in creating a positive and nurturing environment where every pupil can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Support pupils on a 1:1 basis and in small groups.
- Assist pupils with accessing learning and classroom activities.
- Support communication, social development, and independence skills.
- Follow individual support plans and EHCP targets.
- Support personal care and mobility needs where required.
- Encourage positive engagement and participation in learning.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, and support staff.
- Maintain a safe, inclusive, and supportive learning environment.
- Record pupil progress and contribute to ongoing support strategies.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Experience working with children, young people, or adults with additional needs.
- A patient, caring, and proactive approach.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
- Commitment to supporting pupils with complex learning needs.
- Understanding of safeguarding and child welfare responsibilities.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an SEN or specialist school setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with ASC, SLD, MLD, or complex needs.
- Knowledge of Makaton, PECS, or alternative communication methods.
- Experience supporting pupils with personal care needs.
- Understanding of sensory processing and communication difficulties.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Health & Social Care, or a related field.
