Monarch Education is working with a specialist setting in Staffordshire that is seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to support a small group of Key Stage 2 pupils with SEMH needs. The Role

As an SEN Teaching Assistant, you will play a key role in supporting pupils both academically and emotionally, helping them to develop confidence, self-regulation skills and positive relationships within a nurturing learning environment.

You will work closely with teachers, therapists and SEND professionals to deliver tailored support strategies that enable pupils to engage successfully with learning and achieve their individual goals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support a small group of KS2 pupils with SEMH needs both in and outside the classroom.
  • Build strong, positive relationships that promote trust, confidence and emotional wellbeing.
  • Help pupils develop coping strategies, social skills and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Implement behaviour support plans and personalised learning strategies.
  • Support pupils during challenging situations with a calm, consistent and restorative approach.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and the wider SEND team to achieve the best outcomes for pupils.
  • Create a safe, structured and inclusive environment where children can thrive.

What We’re Looking For

We would love to hear from candidates who have:

  • A Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, or equivalent experience.
  • Previous experience supporting children or young people with SEMH needs, SEND, autism, behavioural needs or additional learning difficulties.
  • Strong behaviour management skills and the ability to de-escalate challenging situations confidently.
  • A patient, empathetic and resilient approach to supporting vulnerable learners.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning and succeed.
