Location: Erdington, Birmingham – Start ASAP – Long Term

Monarch Education is currently seeking a Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Teaching Assistant to support Primary-aged children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. This is a long-term position, starting as soon as possible, in a supportive and inclusive school located in Erdington, Birmingham.

The successful candidate will have experience working with children or young adults with SEND, particularly those facing challenges with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health. You will play a vital role in supporting the academic and emotional development of students, helping them overcome barriers to learning and ensuring they feel safe and supported within the school environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small group support to primary-aged children with SEMH difficulties.

  • Support the social, emotional, and academic development of students by implementing tailored strategies.

  • Assist with behavior management, creating a calm and structured environment for children struggling with emotional regulation.

  • Work closely with the class teacher to support lesson delivery, ensuring learning is accessible and engaging for all students.

  • Help with practical tasks, including personal care, when necessary, enabling students to fully engage in school activities.

  • Monitor student progress, contributing to the development and review of Education, Health, and Care Plans (EHCPs).

  • Build and maintain positive relationships with students, fostering trust and emotional security.

  • Promote positive behavior and wellbeing in students, supporting them in building resilience and social skills.

The Ideal Candidate Will:

  • Have experience working with children or young adults with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), particularly those with SEMH difficulties.

  • Be patient, empathetic, and calm, with the ability to engage children facing emotional challenges.

  • Have a good understanding of behavior management strategies and be able to adapt your approach to meet individual needs.

  • Be comfortable providing 1:1 and group support to children with varying abilities and emotional needs.

  • Work well as part of a team, collaborating effectively with teachers, parents, and other professionals.

  • A Level 2 or 3 qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning (or similar) is desirable, though not essential.
