SEND Teaching Assistant – Full-Time

Location: Bournville, Birmingham
Contract Type: Long-Term (Monday to Friday)

Monarch Education is seeking an experienced and proactive SEND Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school in the Bournville area. This role is based in KS1 and is ideal for someone with extensive experience supporting pupils with autism and behavioural needs, who can also assist with personal care. The successful candidate must be active, alert, and able to keep their eye on the ball at all times to ensure pupil safety and engagement.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide one-to-one and small group support for pupils with autism and behavioural challenges in KS1.
  • Assist with personal care routines where required, ensuring dignity and safeguarding at all times.
  • Implement strategies to manage behaviour and promote emotional regulation.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to deliver personalised learning plans.
  • Adapt resources and activities to meet individual needs.
  • Build strong, trusting relationships with pupils to encourage engagement and progress.
  • Communicate effectively with staff, parents/carers, and external professionals.

Requirements:

  • Proven experience supporting children with autism and behavioural needs (school-based experience essential).
  • Comfortable providing personal care when required.
  • Strong understanding of SEND strategies and behaviour management techniques.
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • A genuine passion for helping children overcome barriers to learning.
  • Physically active and able to respond quickly in a dynamic classroom environment.
