Teaching Assistant – SEN Support

About the Role
Monarch Education are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with additional needs, particularly Autism (ASD) and Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, within a specialist SEN school in the DE56 area.
This is a rewarding role focused on supporting pupils to engage with learning, manage emotions, and develop confidence and independence. You will play a key role in building positive relationships and creating a structured, supportive environment where pupils can thrive.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with ASD and SEMH needs
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and engagement in lessons
- Use structured routines, visual aids, and strategies to support learning
- Help pupils develop social skills and positive behaviour
- Adapt learning activities to meet individual needs and abilities
- Promote a calm, safe, and inclusive classroom environment
- Support the implementation of EHCP targets and behaviour plans
- Build positive relationships with pupils to encourage trust and confidence
- Work collaboratively with teachers and other support staff
Requirements
- Experience supporting children or young people with ASD, SEMH, or additional needs
- A calm, patient, and resilient approach
- Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills
- Ability to support emotional regulation and de-escalation
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Adaptability and willingness to learn
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs
Desirable
- Experience in an SEN school or alternative provision setting
- Knowledge of ASD or SEMH strategies
- Team Teach or similar behaviour management training
- Relevant qualifications in education or support work
