About the Role
We are seeking a dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in Nottingham from September 2026.
This rewarding role involves supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, and associated challenging behaviours. You will work closely with pupils who require additional support to access learning, regulate emotions, and develop positive social skills.
Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will play a key role in helping pupils build confidence, improve engagement, and achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with Autism and SEMH needs.
- Support pupils with emotional regulation and positive behaviour strategies.
- Assist teachers in delivering engaging and differentiated learning activities.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Promote a safe, structured, and inclusive learning environment.
- Support pupils with social, emotional, and communication development.
- Follow behaviour support plans and EHCP targets.
- Record and report on pupil progress and wellbeing.
- Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, and parents/carers.
- Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.
Requirements
- Experience working with children or young people in education, care, youth work, mentoring, or similar settings.
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with additional needs.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to remain calm and resilient when managing challenging behaviour.
- Patient, adaptable, and proactive approach.
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.
Desirable
- Previous experience within an SEN, SEMH, or specialist school setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
- Knowledge of behaviour management and de-escalation strategies.
- Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
- Experience supporting pupils with EHCPs.
- Team Teach or equivalent training.
- Relevant qualifications in Education, Childcare, Psychology, Health & Social Care, or a related field.
