About the School

Monarch Education are working with a specialist SEND school in the DE24 area of Derby, supporting children and young people with a range of additional needs.

Pupils may have needs including cognition and learning difficulties, communication and interaction needs, autism, sensory needs and challenges with independence and emotional regulation.

The school provides a supportive and structured environment, helping pupils develop academically, socially and emotionally while building confidence and independence.

About the Role

Monarch Education is recruiting a caring and enthusiastic SEND Teaching Assistant to support pupils within a specialist school setting.

You will work closely with teaching staff to provide individualised support based on each pupil’s needs. This may include 1:1 support, small group work and general classroom support, helping pupils access learning, develop communication and build independence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support pupils with a range of SEND needs.
  • Provide 1:1, small group and classroom support.
  • Help pupils access learning and classroom activities.
  • Support communication, social interaction and independence.
  • Encourage positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
  • Follow individual education and support plans.
  • Work closely with teachers and wider support staff.
  • Support pupils with everyday and independence skills where required.
  • Promote confidence, engagement and positive outcomes.
  • Maintain a safe, supportive and inclusive learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience working with children, young people or adults with additional needs.
  • A patient, caring and adaptable approach.
  • Confidence supporting individuals with varying levels of need.
  • Strong communication and teamwork skills.
  • Understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

  • Previous experience within a SEND or specialist school.
  • Experience supporting autism, learning difficulties or communication needs.
  • Experience providing 1:1 support.
  • Support work, care work or youth work experience.
  • Experience supporting independence and life skills.
  • Team Teach or positive behaviour management training.
