Special Educational Needs Teacher

Areas: Dogsthorpe (PE1)

Salary: £145-£195 p/day

Hours: 38.5 p/week (Wednesdays are 8:30am – 5pm for staff meetings)

Start date: ASAP

An independent Special Educational Needs Schools based in PE1 are looking for an SEND Teacher to support young adults aged 9-19 with ASD and ADHD. The school are not part of a trust or academy.

This is a permanent job role so candidates must be interested in working temp – perm or moving to permanent immediately.

The ideal candidate will:

  • Have Teaching experience or references commenting on their experience as a Teacher (unqualified teachers considered)
  • Have experience working with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities/ SEMH pupils
  • Be able to supply references covering the last 2 years of employment
  • Be highly organised with excellent communication skills
  • Have a desire to work with, inspire and support children
  • Have excellent behaviour management skills
  • Be able to plan lessons thoroughly or follow other plans created by Teachers
  • Lead a class of 20-30 young adults
  • Have knowledge of Makaton or sign language (desirable)
  • Be able to follow lesson plans or create your own
  • Have a good sense of humour and show resilience when working with ADHD pupils

Main Responsibilities:

  • Planning lessons and activities for whole class learning and group learning
  • Supporting SEND children with their work and working 1:1 with these pupils
  • Managing difficult behaviours
  • Taking the register
  • Supervising on lunch and break times
  • Supporting and managing a number of teaching assistants within the classroom
  • Building relationships with staff, pupils and parents
  • Collecting evidence of pupils work to support their assessments
  • Feedback to the relevant member of staff about the pupils progress
