Monarch Education are working with a specialist school in Derby that supports children and young people with a range of complex additional needs. The school provides a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils receive tailored support to help them overcome barriers to learning, develop communication skills and build independence.

The school supports pupils with complex learning needs, communication and interaction difficulties, cognition and learning needs, sensory and physical needs, and social, emotional and mental health (SEMH) needs.

About the Role

Monarch Education is recruiting dedicated and passionate Subject Tutors to deliver engaging lessons in English, Maths, Science, Art, ICT and PSHE within a specialist educational setting in Derby.

This rewarding role involves working with pupils who require additional support to access learning. You will deliver subject-specific lessons, adapt learning materials to meet individual needs and help learners build confidence, achieve academic progress and develop key life skills.

You will work closely with teaching staff, therapists and wider professionals to create an engaging and supportive learning environment where every pupil can succeed.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging lessons in your specialist subject area.
  • Plan and adapt learning activities to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Support pupils with SEND, SEMH and complex learning needs.
  • Differentiate lessons to ensure all learners can access the curriculum.
  • Monitor and record pupil progress and attainment.
  • Promote positive behaviour and classroom engagement.
  • Build positive relationships with pupils, staff and families.
  • Support pupils’ personal development, confidence and independence.
  • Work collaboratively with the wider multidisciplinary team.
  • Maintain a safe, inclusive and nurturing learning environment.

Essential Requirements

  • Experience teaching or tutoring one or more of the following subjects: English, Maths, Science, Art, ICT or PSHE.
  • Experience working with children or young people.
  • Strong communication and classroom management skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate learners with varying abilities.
  • A patient, adaptable and resilient approach.
  • Good understanding of safeguarding and child protection.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

  • Experience within a specialist school, SEND setting or alternative provision.
  • Experience supporting pupils with Autism, SEMH or additional learning needs.
  • Teaching qualification, QTS, PGCE or relevant tutoring experience.
  • Experience differentiating lessons for learners with complex needs.
  • Knowledge of behaviour support strategies and emotional regulation techniques.
  • Team Teach or other behaviour management training.
