About the Role

As a Supply English Teacher, you will deliver engaging lessons to KS3 and KS4 students, bringing strong subject knowledge and a calm, adaptable approach to each classroom. You will help learners develop their skills in reading, writing, analysis, and communication. By establishing routines quickly and maintaining purposeful learning environments, you will inspire students to take pride in their progress and enjoy the study of English.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging, well-structured English lessons across KS3 and KS4
  • Support students in developing strong literacy, analytical, and writing skills
  • Follow school policies, departmental plans, and any pre-set lesson materials
  • Maintain a focused, organised, and positive classroom atmosphere
  • Encourage creativity, critical thinking, and a genuine enthusiasm for English
  • Offer additional support to students who need help with reading, confidence, or behaviour
  • Contribute to a school culture rooted in inclusion, community, and ambition
  • Promote high standards in independent reading, writing, and communication

What We’re Looking For

  • QTS or relevant secondary English teaching experience
  • Strong classroom management and confident communication skills
  • Ability to support, challenge, and motivate students of varied abilities
  • A proactive, flexible, and positive approach to teaching
  • A passion for English and supporting young people in their learning
  • Commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the wider school ethos
  • Experience in secondary settings preferred – ECTs are welcome
