Teaching Assistant – Alternative Provision

Contract: Full-Time & Part-Time Available
About the Role
Monarch Education is recruiting dedicated and resilient Teaching Assistants to support young people within Alternative Provisions across Derby and Derbyshire.
These settings support pupils who may have struggled in mainstream education and require a more tailored, therapeutic approach to learning. You will work closely with students to build confidence, encourage engagement, and help them achieve positive outcomes both academically and personally.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support.
- Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Support learning both inside and outside the classroom.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation.
- Help re-engage pupils with education.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, mentors and pastoral teams.
- Support pupils to develop confidence, independence and social skills.
- Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
Essential Requirements
- Experience working with children, young people or vulnerable adults.
- A calm, patient and resilient approach.
- Confidence managing challenging behaviour.
- Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
- A genuine passion for supporting vulnerable young people.
- Right to work in the UK.
Desirable Experience
- SEMH or behaviour support experience.
- Alternative Provision or PRU experience.
- Youth work, care work or mentoring background.
- Team Teach or de-escalation training.
- Experience supporting pupils at risk of exclusion.
