About the Role
As a Teaching Assistant, you will play an active role in supporting learning across KS3 and KS4, helping students stay engaged, organised, and motivated in their individual subjects. A key part of the role will include offering support within the school’s Behaviour Support Room, where you’ll work with students who may need time to calm, reflect, and prepare to return to lessons in a positive and focused mindset. This space forms an important part of the school’s wider pastoral care, providing a structured environment where students can receive guidance, reassurance, and help in getting back on track. You will also ensure that students continue with their academic work while accessing support, helping them maintain progress and avoid falling behind in any subject areas. This position is well-suited to someone who is patient, composed, and adaptable, with a strong commitment to supporting both learning and behaviour in a compassionate, consistent way.
Key Responsibilities
- Support teaching and learning across a variety of KS3 and KS4 subjects
- Help students stay on task, remain motivated, and make steady progress in their individual lessons
- Deliver tailored 1:1 support and small‑group activities to meet specific learning needs
- Assist in the Behaviour Support Room, guiding students to regulate, refocus, and return to lessons positively
- Promote constructive behaviour, consistent routines, and active participation
- Work alongside teaching staff to prepare resources, materials, and classroom setups
- Contribute to an inclusive, encouraging, and student‑centred school environment
- Play an active part in supporting students’ academic growth and personal development
What We’re Looking For
- Previous experience working with children or young people (school-based experience an advantage)
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships
- Confidence in supporting behaviour, emotional regulation, and classroom engagement
- A calm, patient, and adaptable approach to challenges
- Genuine enthusiasm for helping young people develop academically and emotionally
- A strong commitment to safeguarding, inclusion, and the school’s core ethos
- Relevant qualifications are helpful but not essential
