About the Role

We are seeking an enthusiastic and motivated Unqualified Science Teacher to join a specialist Alternative Provision setting in Nottingham from September 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Science graduate looking to gain valuable classroom experience whilst working towards a teaching qualification or pursuing a teacher training route. You will support and deliver engaging Science lessons to students who require an alternative approach to education, including pupils with Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC), behavioural challenges, and those at risk of exclusion from mainstream education.

Working within a supportive and experienced team, you will play a key role in helping students re-engage with learning, develop confidence, and achieve positive outcomes. This role is ideal for someone passionate about Science education and making a meaningful difference to the lives of young people.


Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging Science lessons across Key Stages 3 and 4 under the guidance of experienced teaching staff.
  • Support students with varied learning, behavioural, and emotional needs.
  • Plan and adapt learning activities to meet individual student needs.
  • Create a positive and inclusive learning environment that promotes engagement and achievement.
  • Build strong relationships with students to encourage attendance, participation, and progress.
  • Support students in developing confidence, resilience, and aspirations for the future.
  • Monitor, assess, and record student progress and attainment.
  • Promote positive behaviour management strategies and restorative approaches.
  • Contribute to individual learning plans and intervention programmes.
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff, pastoral teams, parents/carers, and external agencies.
  • Support students in practical Science activities, ensuring health and safety procedures are followed.
  • Participate in staff meetings, training, and professional development opportunities.
  • Follow safeguarding policies and procedures at all times.

Requirements

  • A degree in a Science-related subject (Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Environmental Science, or similar).
  • A genuine interest in pursuing a career in teaching and education.
  • Experience working with young people in educational, coaching, tutoring, mentoring, youth work, or similar settings.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to engage and motivate students who may be disengaged from education.
  • A resilient, patient, and adaptable approach.
  • Strong organisational skills and willingness to learn.
  • Commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

Desirable

  • Previous experience working within an Alternative Provision, PRU, SEND, or SEMH setting.
  • Experience delivering tuition, workshops, mentoring, or classroom-based learning.
  • Knowledge of behaviour management strategies.
  • Understanding of trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience supporting students with EHCPs.
  • Interest in completing teacher training
  • Knowledge of GCSE Science curriculum content.
