We are excited to partner with a specialist SEND Primary school in Birmingham, seeking out a passionate SEND Teaching Assistant. You will be responsible in supporting the educational journey of young children with special needs and following individualised learning plans (EHCP’s) to ensure every child reaches their potential.

What actually is the role?

You would be working in a primary special school for students who have mild to severe special needs. This can range from anything from learning and cognition difficulties to students with PMLD and more complex health care needs.

The actual role itself, supporting children through their educational journey, with the use of sensory toys and engaging activities in a general classroom setting. You would need to adapt where necessary to ensure everyone gets a fair chance at learning. You will be participating in many fun and engaging activities and games. Please note this role does require a minimum qualification of EYFS Level 3.

Requirements to apply:

  • You MUST have a EYFS Level 3 qualification for this role
  • You must be willing to help children with personal care
  • A knowledge of Makaton, PECS communication, and Autism Awareness would be a HUGE advantage
  • You must have some SEN experience

The following skills would be advantageous:

  • Strong communication skills to effectively communicate with students, their families, and other professionals involved in their education
  • Patience and caring staff able to support and understand the unique needs and challenges faced by students with special needs
  • Knowledge of various learning strategies and accommodations to help students with different abilities succeed in their education
  • Ability to build positive relationships and create a supportive and inclusive learning environment for students with special needs
