Teaching Assistant

Location: Primary School, Yate
Contract: Full-time, Term-time only
Start Date: 28/11/2025

About the Role

We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to work on a one-to-one basis with a child who has Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs. This role is pivotal in providing tailored support to help the child engage positively in learning and school life.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide consistent 1:1 support to the child throughout the school day.
• Implement strategies to manage emotional regulation and promote positive behaviour.
• Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to adapt learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Support the child in developing social skills and resilience.
• Maintain accurate records of progress and behaviour, reporting to relevant staff.
• Foster a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment.

Essential Skills & Experience

• Experience working with children with SEMH needs (school or similar setting).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to remain calm and patient under pressure.
• Understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.
• A positive, proactive approach to supporting learning and emotional wellbeing.

Desirable

• Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant, SEMH training).
• Knowledge of de-escalation techniques and behaviour management strategies.
