1:1 Learning Support Assistant – Burton upon Trent
Job Purpose
Monarch Education is seeking a dedicated and compassionate 1:1 Learning Support Assistant to support pupils at, an inclusive Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) school in the DE15 area. Supporting students aged 5-19 with moderate to severe learning difficulties and associated behavioural needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with individual pupils, providing personalised support to help them access learning, develop their independence, manage their emotional wellbeing, and achieve their full potential within a safe and nurturing educational environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide dedicated 1:1 support for pupils with SEND needs throughout the school day.
- Support pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties and associated behavioural challenges.
- Assist pupils in accessing the curriculum and engaging in classroom activities.
- Implement strategies identified within Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and individual support plans.
- Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through consistent and supportive interventions.
- Adapt learning activities and resources to meet individual learning needs.
- Support pupils with communication, social interaction, and relationship-building skills.
- Encourage independence, confidence, and participation in all aspects of school life.
- Work collaboratively with teachers, therapists, pastoral staff, and parents/carers.
- Monitor and record pupil progress, behaviour, and wellbeing, reporting concerns where necessary.
- Support pupils during breaktimes, lunchtimes, educational visits, and enrichment activities.
- Maintain high standards of safeguarding, health and safety, and confidentiality at all times.
Essential Criteria
- Experience working with children or young people in an educational, care, support, or youth work setting.
- A genuine passion for supporting pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build positive and trusting relationships with pupils.
- Patient, resilient, and nurturing approach.
- Ability to remain calm and professional when managing challenging behaviour.
Desirable Criteria
- Previous experience working within a SEND school, specialist provision, or alternative provision setting.
- Experience supporting pupils with moderate to severe learning difficulties.
- Knowledge of autism, ADHD, SEMH, and communication needs.
- Understanding of EHCPs and personalised learning strategies.
- Relevant qualification in education, childcare, health and social care, or support work.
- Team Teach, Positive Handling, or First Aid training.
