Nurture Teacher – SEND / SEMH

Location: Derbyshire
Contract: Full-Time & Part-Time Opportunities
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

About the Role

Monarch Education is looking for a patient, nurturing and resilient Teacher to work with children and young people who require additional support to successfully engage with education.

As a Nurture Teacher, you will work with pupils who may have SEMH needs, Autism, ADHD, learning difficulties, challenging behaviour or experienced barriers to mainstream education.

This is a highly relationship-focused role. You will create a calm, structured and supportive learning environment, helping pupils build confidence, regulate their emotions and gradually re-engage with learning.

Teaching will often take place within smaller groups or on a 1:1 basis, allowing lessons and activities to be adapted around individual academic, social and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver engaging and accessible lessons to individual pupils and small groups.
  • Create a safe, nurturing and consistent classroom environment.
  • Build positive and trusting relationships with pupils who may struggle to engage with education.
  • Support pupils with SEMH, Autism, ADHD and additional learning needs.
  • Adapt lessons and expectations to meet individual ability and need.
  • Use positive behaviour and de-escalation strategies effectively.
  • Support pupils with emotional regulation, confidence and resilience.
  • Work towards individual targets outlined within EHCPs and support plans.
  • Work collaboratively with TAs, pastoral teams, SENCOs and other professionals.
  • Monitor pupil progress academically, socially and emotionally.

Essential Requirements

  • Previous experience teaching or supporting children and young people with additional needs.
  • A calm, patient and nurturing approach.
  • Strong behaviour management and relationship-building skills.
  • Confidence working with pupils who may display challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
  • Ability to differentiate and adapt learning to individual needs.
  • An understanding of SEND and SEMH.
  • Strong safeguarding knowledge.
  • Right to work in the UK.

Desirable Experience

  • QTS, QTLS or relevant teaching qualification.
  • Previous experience within a SEND school, nurture provision, alternative provision or SEMH setting.
  • Experience supporting pupils who have struggled within mainstream education.
  • Trauma-informed practice.
  • Experience delivering learning to small groups or on a 1:1 basis.
  • Knowledge of Autism, ADHD, attachment needs and emotional regulation.

The Ideal Nurture Teacher

You don’t just need to be confident delivering lessons. We’re looking for someone who can look beyond behaviour, build trust and understand the individual needs of each pupil.

You will be consistent, approachable and resilient, with the ability to celebrate small steps of progress and help pupils develop a more positive relationship with education.
